Montagu

A Relaxing and Sustainable Environment

Contractor: Morgan Lovell

After being given the opportunity to double their existing floor space, Private Equity firm Montagu seized the opportunity to create a new space that not only reflects their brand, but also meets the well-being needs of their staff.

The Design

We often talk about the importance of collaborative design, but in creating their new workspace, Montagu took this one step further.

In several targeted surveys issued to their staff, Montagu & their designers Morgan Lovell, sought to determine what their team needed from the new space. Effective at maximising the efficiency of the overall design, but equally useful at improving brand culture and buy-in, a facet which is increasingly important in the modern office.

Matching Ambitions

The overall goals are not hard to see; there is a explicit, positive approach to sustainability and the promotion of staff wellbeing.

Across levels five and six, we supplied a range of eye-catching joinery that has contributed to the overall scheme, with collaboration at its heart.

The riverside office has been designed to meet multiple working styles, from secluded meeting rooms to a central, timber-clad staircase feature.

One area that exemplifies this perfectly is the level five tea point. Consisting of private booths with AV screens, an island with barstool seating, and plenty of areas in between to relax, work and connect, all of which is complimented by a wealth of light and an incredible view of the iconic Tower Bridge.

Despite the bustling vibe outside, the inside of Montagu's new office space contrasts wonderfully, with its staff able to work in a calm and healthy environment. Throughout the 28,000 sq ft space, we provided six sets of floor-to-ceiling timber slats. Spaced at exactly 149.4mm, these are a simple but effective way to create a level of privacy without closing off the room's natural open plan feel. Once stained to match the flooring, this feature helps provide a unified atmosphere that ultimately reflects the Monatgu brand.

A six-metre multi-layered reception desk can be found at the entrance to the fifth floor.

Formed using a graphite base and timber ribs outlining the curvature of the main section, with the lower layer showcasing a 1.4 m planter. Biophilic design features can bespotted throughout including planters and floor-to-ceiling moss walls. The benefits of greenery in an office space are well-known and further demonstrate the attention to staff welfare.

Rigorous Standards

At the forefront of the Private Equity firm’s new space was to demonstrate their positive approach towards sustainability, and in doing so received an SKA Gold.

We are delighted to have worked alongside Morgan Lovell on this project and to have been a part of a design and build that achieved the highest possible gold certification.
