Thorpes of Great Glen were founded in 1996, with a set of core values incorporating a personal and honest approach to joinery. Since then we have expanded our service to provide quality bespoke joinery to a range of clients across the high end commercial and residential sectors.
We are proud to be a traditional and family owned company, blending our experience with modern flourishes to the design, manufacture and install of a high-quality bespoke joinery product. Our flexible and adaptive approach is born of an understanding that every project is different and will have different requirements.
John Thorpe – Managing Director
John has continued Thorpe’s tradition of being a family run company, following two previous generations to inherit the Thorpes of Great Glen brand. Starting with a city and guilds, John spent several years within the business, initially as a wood machinist, and working in installations, contracts, production and finally sales. In 1996 Thorpes was rebranded and moved into the commercial fit out market. John started to integrate into both public and private sectors, with fit-out contactors, project managers, quantity surveyors and end users. Since its inception Thorpe’s has grown into a major joinery company within the London market, of which John oversees and operates as well as a responsibility in sales.
David Dean – OPERATIONS/ H&s Director
David Dean joined Thorpes in May 2001 and by profession is a time served, graduate Engineer with a background in large scale constructional engineering, in particular large scale manufacture of components. Following an initial role in commercial and production David became the Operations/H&S Director in April 2014.
David also takes the lead role in the continued certification of legal and sustainable timber procurement and is responsible for the setting up and operation of the Factory and Site H&S Policies and currently holds a graduate membership of IoSH
Simon Dunkley – Contracts Director
Simon begun his career in construction 36 years ago as an apprentice engineer’s pattern maker. Since joining Thorpes nearly 25 years ago, he has developed a depth of knowledge that aids his role as Contracts Director. Specialising in running and overseeing Thorpe’s projects, Simons experience in veneer purchase, product manufacture and auto-CAD is extensive.
Matt Roberts – Head of Commercial & Estimating
Matthew has 30 years’ experience in estimating and commercial management most of which has been spent within the field of specialist joinery, finishes and fit-out. 23 years have been spent at senior / director level working on some of London’s most prestigious landmark projects for a range of high ranking architects, clients and contractors.
Simon Hobart – Financial Controller
Simon trained in an accountancy practice in Leicester for a number of years before crossing into industry, becoming fully qualified whilst working as a Reporting Accountant for the BSS Group. In the following years Simon rose to Head of Finance for Buck & Hickman, gaining valuable experience on their Leadership Team. Simon joined Thorpes in January 2015 to take responsibility for the Group Finances, and to bring his corporate ethos and knowledge to our team to assist in driving the Group forward.
