Man Group

A London Inspired Design

Contractor: Overbury

Architect: Perkins + Will

Designed and created in 2021, still loved and enjoyed in 2024.

The Design

The upgrade to four levels of Man Group’s Riverbank Place office was officially completed back in 2021.

As a global business, the investment management company is committed to acting responsibly.
This includes ensuring their employees are provided with an excellent work environment to increase productivity, whilst minimising their operational impact on the environment.

Visual Cohesiveness

Due to only four out of the … floors receiving an upgrade, the architect's scheme incorporates Man Group’s corporate blue and a clear London-centric inspiration. The result is a unified and seamless design, with modern twists throughout.

With BREEAM and user experience at the forefront of the design, joinery on the project had to be well thought out and able to make an impact in a way that works. Joinery played an important role in the scheme, with items including movable tiered seating, collaboration spaces, and tea point areas.

One particularly stand-out element was presented to us purely as a visual: the ‘River Thames’ reception wall. Alongside Perkins + Will and Overbury, we worked on a collaborative design to not only make their concept a reality, but also do so in the most responsible way possible.

Complimented by three bespoke marble reception pods, the wall is made up of several veneered aluminum panels and LED lighting to create the silhouette of the iconic Thames River, to take pride of place in their Riverbank Place London office. This makes a statement, nods to their heritage and displays pride in their location.

We are proud to have contributed to this seven-month project and to have worked alongside both Overbury and Perkins + Will to create a visually cohesive space that prioritises environmental responsibility and the needs of their employees.

Jenny Pape - Project Manager

”This was my first solo project at Thorpes Joinery and one that I will not only remember for its ambitious design but also for the sheer level of communication and transparency that was required and carried out between the team. It was a pleasure to see our joinery play a key part in a hugely impressive scheme and a genuine pleasure to be given the opportunity to work on such collaborative designs”.
