Meet the Team #5: Nicole Bates, Commercial Assistant

We’re back with a fifth round of our Meet the Team series, and this time, we’re introducing Nicole Bates, our newly appointed Commercial Assistant. Nicole joined the construction industry 18 years ago and has developed a wealth of knowledge along the way.

Nicole’s Story

With 18 years of experience under her belt, Nicole has built a dynamic career in the construction industry, one that began quite unexpectedly with a job advert in the Evening Telegraph.

Her first role was as an Account Manager for a company that arranged Specification Meetings and CPDs for clients in the construction sector. She worked with businesses in commercial flooring, cladding, HVAC, and mechanical ventilation, gaining valuable exposure to a wide range of specialties early on.

Nicole spent 11 years as a Sales Manager for a washroom company and later transitioned into a Trainee Quantity Surveyor role at a landscaping and fencing firm. Each position deepened her understanding of how spaces are built and how projects come together behind the scenes.

What drives her most is the variety and complexity of construction. She's genuinely fascinated by how things are made - from the foundations to the fine details. Recently, she’s spent time on the factory floor each week, diving into different aspects of the production process and learning firsthand how things work. She’s even built her own chessboard!

Initially, working in the industry as a female could be tough, but I think the industry is much more accepting now and champions Women in Construction.

My sister and many of my friends work in Construction too, it’s brilliant to see such progress

In her current role, she manages project financials and is responsible for producing monthly applications and variation quotations for any on-site changes. The role is fast-paced and ever-changing - just the way she likes it. It allows her to apply her industry knowledge while continuing to learn and adapt with each new challenge.

Outside of work, she enjoys experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes, gardening, and entertaining her family. She also lives with a rare form of diabetes, which has given her a strong appreciation for health and resilience. Among her more unique experiences: cooking in Jean Christophe Novelli’s kitchen and training to be a nurse.

We are excited to see where Nicole’s journey takes her.

Please join us in welcoming her to the team!
