Meet the Team #6: Lauren Gent, Project Support

At Thorpes, we're always excited to introduce new faces to our team, and today, we're thrilled to welcome Lauren Gent, our newest member of the contracts team. Stepping into the role of Project Support, Lauren brings a fresh perspective and a wealth of transferable skills to the table.

Lauren’s Story

This is Lauren’s first role in the construction industry, and it hasn’t taken her long to settle into the team. It was actually a family connection that sparked her interest - her husband, Olly Gent, who is a supervisor on the shop floor at Thorpes. When he mentioned the vacancy, Lauren was immediately intrigued, and the rest is history!

Before joining Thorpes, Lauren worked in sales and customer service after completing her honours degree at university. Since then, she’s been able to transfer the skills she learned in those roles to her new position.

Lauren is particularly inspired by the transformation process that takes place on every project.

“We start with a building site, and over time it transforms into something completely new with a fresh identity.”

Her role involves supporting our project managers with a wide range of tasks, from organising and submitting samples for approval to maintaining technical documentation and updating our sample library. No two days are the same, and that variety is something Lauren truly enjoys.

We asked Lauren how she’s found stepping into a traditionally male-dominated industry, and her response was full of positivity:

It feels empowering! Being a female in this industry hasn’t been as challenging as I thought it would be. Everyone at Thorpes is treated as an equal, and I feel valued every day, which is really important to me.
— Lauren Gent

Outside of the office, Lauren leads a busy and active lifestyle. She trains at the gym at least four times per week, enjoys binge-watching the latest Netflix series, and spends quality time with her family.

Lauren is always ready to take on a new challenge. At twenty years old, she flew solo to India for two weeks to help teach young children English. “It was an eye-opening experience that gave me a whole new outlook on life.”

We’re thrilled to have Lauren on board and can’t wait to see how she continues to grow and contribute to our team and projects.

Please join us in welcoming her to the team!
