Feature Wall.

The Feature Wall.

One of the undoubted highlights from this project was the feature wall replicating the Table Mountain in Cape Town. From design to manufacture to installation, we maintained our top quality services throughout.

Design.

As always we were pivotal to the design process and making the intent possible as well as ensuring it would be build able.

Tweaking the original drawing to something that was workable as well as to suit the functionality of the materials used. Having to consider a number of design elements such as; incorporating the lighting issues and requirements, incorporating the airflow required in the units below it, finding a suitable flexible material to follow the shape outline along the feature wall as well as assist in the strengthening of the wall it is hung from as the original was not suitable.

Manufacture.

10 Men. 60 Days. 3840 Hours.

Behind the scenes, it was time to make a start on this feature wall. Knowing we had to ensure the feature wall was a clear replicate of the Table Mountain, we used a range of materials and finishes to give it the best possible look. To form the mountain outline, a solid surface was used with a sprayed brass finish, which has been incorporated throughout the reception area on the skirting boards, planters and reception desk.

Backing oak timber staves and veneer was used with warm lighting ready for the darker timber, blackened oak veneered staves to create a ‘tongue and groove’ effect throughout the feature wall.

Install.

Once finished in manufacture, it had to be delivered and installed to the highest quality. The white gold, anka metal finishes throughout the wall play a significant impact on the aesthetic of the office space. This was key to be used throughout the design on the reception desk, plinth boards, doors as well as planters.
