The Big Move: One Year On

September 15th 2017 will forever hold a special significance on our calendars here at Thorpes Joinery, as this was the day that our new HQ in Market Harborough officially opened it’s doors for the first time.

To commemorate the first anniversary of the move from our long held home in Great Glen, we are looking back at some of the key facts and figures that have made the last 12 months rather momentous indeed.

How we did it…

The employment and training of apprentices has been a part of our culture for many years, and this was certainly not lost in the move, and as of this month we still have 4 full-time trainees employed at Thorpes Joinery.

We are delighted to announce that several of our previous trainees have succesfully passed their courses, and have progressed either onto the next level of their development or accepted full time roles with us. We greatly value on the job training and internal development and so this news is extremely welcome.

This year we have also had multiple work experience visits, with students from local community colleges and Universities choosing Thorpes as their first glimpse into the working world of construction.

New Team Members

As we have grown, so has our team. A greatly increased space combined with enhanced production capabilities has had an extremely positive impact on our output, and we are delighted to have welcomed many new members of staff to the Thorpes team to help us manage this increased workload.

This process has seen every department gain new faces in both existing roles and completely new ones. For example, Kristal Scotton has joined us in the newly created position of: Health, Safety and Environmental Manager, a move which has enabled us to greatly develop our commitment in this area.

Staff Retention

This figure has remained high for many years, traditionally sitting in the 90-97% bracket. To that end it is great to see that so many of our highly-valued staff remain here at Thorpes, we are very proud that several team members have now been with us for 25 years or more.

Office Bake Sales

‘The Great Thorpes Bake Off’ and many other fundraisers have been a great way to raise money for some brilliant causes such as Sports Relief, The Alzehimer’s Society, and Macmillan Cancer Trust. The Thorpes team contains some talented bakers who have jumped at the opportunity to show their prowess! You can learn more about these internal events on our social media channels.

Social Media

Our social media channels have certainly been busy this year, amongst many other things sharing coverage of our completed project case studies, HQ behind the scenes, and #factoryfriday’s (our series dedicated to shining a spotlight on our production). Are you following us yet?

Projects Completed

This is another statistic that we are delighted to see rise year on year, and 2018 so far has contained a great mixture of both larger scale and smaller projects, within both the commercial and residential fit out markets.

Project Value

Our 60% increase in manufacture space last year has allowed us to complete significantly larger jobs both in terms of scope and value, and our maximum project value increased by a staggering 50% this year. We have some great projects underway at the moment, ranging in sizes and joinery elements, so stay tuned for manufacture updates and new case studies.

A natural result of the growth in our output has been an increase in the number of materials used within the factory. Our FSC accredited timber products feature heavily in all of our high-quality joinery items.

We have estimated that our drivers have transported over 300 deliveries from our new HQ to production sites across the country, especially throughout London. Our wider project teams also frequently make the hour long journey to the Capital, visiting sites, attending project meetings and ensuring that our clients have a point of contact whenever they should require it. Although our team spend a lot of time in London our custom-built HQ also acts as a working showroom - a stylish and functional meeting space for hosting clients and supplier alike.

Who We Worked With

We have worked with some of the UK’s most prominent architects and contractors since first establishing ourselves in the commercial fit-out market in 1996. This year was no different and we are privileged to have worked on some prestigious schemes for a range of discerning clients.

Our working showroom is in full swing, with over 200 visitors to our site for meetings, presentations and training days we are making the most of this fantastic new facility.

Onwards and Upwards

2018 has been a significant year for us all here at Thorpes, and our success so far is testament to our dedicated and talented staff and our valued client base. We look forward to the future here in Market Harborough, be sure to check this space for more news!
