2017 was a momentous year for us all at Thorpes Joinery
Moving to a new home in Market Harborough, officially rebranding from "Thorpes of Great Glen" and continuing to grow in both size and stature are just some of the highlights from throughout the year, and below we take you through a selection of the key facts and figures as 2018 gets underway.
How We Did It...
Manufacture Space Increased by 60%
A key motivation for our factory move was to increase our overall output. Our new Market Harborough HQ does exactly that; it has a full 60% more space and is significantly more efficient in its usage, and this combined with a notable investment into both our staff and machinery has meant we are already seeing the benefits.
A Range of Projects
We were proud to be awarded our largest contract to date before our move, with a £4m order placed on behalf of a high end commercial client. This award represents an acknowledgement by our clients of our increased capacity and their confidence in our ability to deliver. However, as Thorpes of Great Glen we cultivated a reputation of flexibility and treating all projects with equal importance regardless of its size. This mentality is something that we have certainly carried over into our new premises, with our smallest contract of £6k demanding the same level of dedication.
We take great pride in some truly remarkable statistics regarding our employees. Our staff retention rate is consistently above 95%, and 2017 was no different. This consistency means that around 13% of our staff have remained at the company for over 20 years, many of whom even completed their apprenticeships with us - this level of commitment to our firm is something we actively seek to encourage and we are delighted to see it in action.
Thorpes Joinery retain an active approach with regards to the hiring and training of apprentices throughout our company, whether it's in the office or the factory; and this year we're grateful to have had five apprenticeship positions filled within the company
This year we had the opportunity to deliver our joinery to clients to numerous countries from France through to India.
Our timber is all FSC certified and hand crafted by our talented joiners, and we utilised 856m³ of it last year.
Our new HQ provided new employment opportunities across all our departments and last year 10 new jobs were created, with a vast majority done so in the latter part of the year.
70 Projects Completed
Not only did we break our previous record for the largest contract value, but in 2017 we also completed our largest number of projects for a range of discerning clients across the commercial and residential sector. To see more of our work, follow this link.
0% Waste Reduction
Nearly all of our bespoke joinery items contain an element of wood, and we strive to ensure that our usage of this natural resource is responsible and sustainable. To that end we are constantly looking for ways to improve our efficiency in this area and the purchase of a new Biomass Boiler reduced our landfill waste by 60% almost immediately and we estimate that we will see further reductions of up to 90% through 2018.
